Driver Requirements and Additional Drivers

To rent a car on Curaçao you need a valid driver’s license from your home country. An international driving permit is not required if your license is printed in the Latin alphabet. The minimum age to rent a car in category 1 and category 2 is 21 years. For category 3 vehicles the minimum age is 23 years. Drivers under the age of 25 may need to pay a young driver surcharge. This surcharge is normally $ 5,- per day and is not included in the listed rental prices.

You can add an additional driver to your rental contract. The extra driver must also present a valid driver’s license at the pick-up location. The cost for an additional driver is $ 7,- per day, with a maximum of $ 70,- per rental period. Only drivers listed on the rental agreement are covered by the insurance. If an unlisted person drives the car, all insurance becomes invalid and you are fully liable for any damage.

Fuel Policy and Refueling

All rental cars are delivered with a full tank of gasoline. You must return the car with a full tank as well. If the tank is not full when you bring the car back, the rental company will charge you for the missing fuel. This charge is $ 15,- per gallon plus a service fee of $ 10,-. We recommend you refuel at a gas station near the airport before drop-off. There are several gas stations on the main road to Hato International Airport, open daily from early morning until late evening.

The type of fuel for each car is written on a sticker inside the fuel cap and in the rental agreement. Most small cars like the Picanto and Hyundai i10 use regular unleaded gasoline. The Suzuki Swift and Suzuki Vitara also use regular unleaded gasoline. Diesel is only used in a few utility vehicles, which we do not normally rent to tourists. The current fuel prices on Curaçao are around $ 1,45,- per liter for regular gasoline, but prices can change without notice.

Child Seats and Additional Equipment

If you travel with young children, we strongly advise you to reserve a child seat at the same time you book your rental car. Child seats are subject to availability, especially during school holidays and high season. A baby seat for children up to 13 kg costs $ 8,- per day with a maximum of $ 40,- per rental. A booster seat for children from 15 kg to 36 kg costs $ 5,- per day with a maximum of $ 25,- per rental. You can request a child seat in the comment field of your booking or by sending us an e-mail.

Additional equipment like GPS navigation units and beach coolers can also be rented for a small daily fee. A GPS unit costs $ 7,- per day and comes with maps of Curaçao pre-installed. A cooler box costs $ 4,- per day. All equipment must be returned in good condition. The rental company charges a cleaning fee of $ 25,- if the car or any equipment is returned excessively dirty, for example with sand from the beach inside the seats.

Deposit, Payment and Cancellation

At pick-up you must leave a security deposit on a credit card. The deposit amount is $ 500,- for category 1 and category 2 cars, and $ 750,- for category 3 cars. This deposit is not charged to your card but is held as a reservation. The rental company accepts Visa and Mastercard only. Debit cards and cash are not accepted for the deposit. When you return the car without damage and with a full tank, the deposit reservation is released immediately. Depending on your bank, it can take up to 10 working days before the amount is available again on your card.

Payment for the rental itself is due at pick-up. You can pay with credit card, debit card or cash in US dollars or Netherlands Antillean guilders. The listed prices include all local taxes. If you cancel your rental more than 48 hours before the pick-up time, there is no charge. For cancellations within 48 hours or no-shows, the rental company charges one full rental day. Changes to your booking, such as a different pick-up time or a different car category, are free of charge if made at least 24 hours in advance and subject to availability.
